  1. Hi Julie, my name is Julie also. I also have 2 copies of the MTHFR gene mutation and both my children do too. I read the need for folic acid on your website and everything I read and have been told has been that your not supposed to take regular folic acid because your body cannot break it down into the usable form but we should take something called 5-methyltetrahydrofolate and we should be taking a usable form of B-12 too called methylcobalamin. I have had problems taking normal supplements with just folic acid making me really sick to the point of throwing up and never knew why and now I do but if we have this mutation we cannot process folic acid to the useable form, at least that is how I understand it and didnt want anyone to be taking the wrong supplement. Deplin does have the useable form in it too I dont use it because it has dyes in it which causes more problems. I hope this helps and were all in this together. Thanks Julie

    • Dear Julie,

The body’s challenge with the use of folic acid seems to be the big challenge with the occurrence of MTHFR. As always, I want to reiterate that no matter what recommendations are posted on any website, decisions about what course of treatment to follow should be made under the guidance of a licensed practitioner. Thank you for sharing your experience and what has worked for you. I know your information will be useful to many of our readers.

      With love,
      Julie
